Intern Sponsorship Fund Application Process


Eligibility:

Eligible Students

  1. are currently enrolled undergraduates in good standing at Westminster College
  2. who will be enrolled in the fall following their internship,
  3. have already applied for the internship(s) for which they are seeking funding before submitting an application, and
  4. agree to the terms of defined eligible internships.
  5. Note: Acceptance to an internship is not a prerequisite for applying

Eligible Internships Offer

  1. 160 hours or more of supervised experience, (Equivalent to 4 weeks at 40 hours per week),
  2. supervision from a professional within the organization, and
  3. no compensation from the organization.
  4. Note: Students must comply with Westminster’s International Travel Policy if the internship occurs abroad.

 

Internship Requirements:

  1. Provide an opportunity for intellectual growth, development of knowledge and skills specific to a career or career setting, exploration of career options and understanding of career pathways; acquisition of transferable professional skills (e.g., communication, coping with ambiguity, teamwork, time management, interpersonal skills, goal setting)
  2. Address the applicant's specific learning goals for furthering career exploration and development, enhancing academic skills and knowledge, and advancing selfknowledge.

 

Application Process:

  1. All application materials must be completed and submitted by April 21, 2025.
  2. To apply, the applicant must submit the following documents;
    1. Personal statement
    2. Resume
    3. Unofficial transcript
  3. Applicant must submit internship forms
  4. Note: Funding may only be applied to the internship(s) indicated in the application.
  5. Non-eligible experiences:

    1. Fee-based volunteer programs
    2. Student teaching, field experiences, or practicum
    3. Courses or training programs without an experiential learning component equivalent to that described above

 

Selection Process:

  1. A committee of Career Center counselors, Westminster College faculty, and other administrators evaluate applications with emphasis placed on applicants’ statements with support from the resume, transcript, and employer form.
  2. A competitive application successfully demonstrates the applicant’s understanding of the link between their goals, past experiences, and the opportunities offered by the internship(s).
  3. As outlined above, the program also considers how well an applicant’s proposed internship experience advances its objectives.
  4. Rising juniors, seniors, and applicants who have not received past assistance will be prioritized for this sponsorship.

 

Terms and Conditions:

If selected, applicants agree to:

  1. Write a thank you letter to Mr. Donald Blayney
  2. Attend an internship preparation workshop
  3. Submit a reflective essay after the internship to be shared with the funders
  4. Participate in a post-internship reception
  5. Agree to be interviewed and videotaped for Career Center Westminster College use
  6. Note: Awards are not transferable to internships outside the scope of the submitted application
