Westminster Accounting Professor Joins Strategic Advisory Board

Posted on Tuesday, August 19, 2003

Paul Wozniak, professor of accounting at Westminster College, has been appointed a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).

"In the past 18 months, the profession of accounting has experienced tremendous changes," said Wozniak. "The accounting profession is looking at change and correction of accounting practices in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act."

The mission of the 50-member Strategic Advisory Board is to furnish guidance and counsel to PICPA by providing input and feedback on programs and services, as well a legislation, regulatory, legal and professional issues.

"The Security Exchange Commission has taken over accounting standards for large corporations," continued Wozniak. "It's too costly for small businesses to comply with the standards made for large firms. This board is looking at setting up accounting standards for small businesses not traded on the stock market."

Wozniak, who has been with Westminster College since 1974, earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees from Youngstown State University. For more information, contact him at (724) 946-7167 or e-mail wozniapg@westminster.edu.
