Faculty Forum Continues at Westminster College

Posted on Friday, September 5, 2003

Dr. Fritz Horn, professor of English emeritus at Westminster College, will present "Teaching: Making Student Evaluations Work for You" Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 11:30 a.m. in the McKelvey Campus Center.

"I will be talking with my colleagues about ways to get feedback from students about those elements of a course important to those teaching and taking courses," Horn said. "We will look at short assessment forms that can be used throughout a course."

"After all, the final course assessment comes after one can make any adjustments to correct problems. With periodic assessment, teachers and students can discover what is working and what is not. Professors can discover what students may or may not comprehend before they give examinations, and can also know what is working well in a course or what is confusing students," Horn added.

Horn, who taught at Westminster College from 1966-2000, is currently the faculty development officer and director of off-campus study. He earned his undergraduate degree from Lycoming College, and master's and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware.
