Professor to Discuss Harem Life, Solomon, & David

Posted on Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Dr. Beverly Cushman, assistant professor of religion and Christian education at Westminster College, will present "Harem Politics and the Case of Bat-Sheba" at Faculty Forum Wednesday, March 29, at 11:45 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

"I will be discussing how information about harem life in the Ottoman Empire gives insight into Bat-Sheba's role in getting her son Solomon on the throne of David," Cushman said.

Cushman, who has been with Westminster College since 2004, earned her undergraduate degree from Stetson University, and a master's and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

Faculty Forum, established in 1990, serves as a venue for the exchange of ideas and information among Westminster College faculty.  Speakers present their research, teaching ideas, lectures, performances, special programs, and uses of technology to keep faculty informed about the work of colleagues from many disciplines.

The event is free and open to the public.  Contact Cushman at (724) 946-7127 or e-mail cushmabw@westminster.edu for more information.
