Posted on Friday, February 6, 2015

Westminster College's Celebrity Series will present Women of Ireland, Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The concert is sponsored by First National Bank.

"This will be a delightful evening of Irish music, song and dance to put us in the mood for St. Patrick's Day," shares Connie McGinnis, director of the Celebrity Series. "We will enjoy some of the most beautiful elements associated with Irish & Celtic music presented in one big sensational stage spectacle.  Lovers of Celtic music are in for a special treat when Women of Ireland take the Orr stage!  This extraordinary show has toured throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia and we are excited to welcome them to the Westminster College Celebrity Series."

Women of Ireland features principal dancer Kelly McDonnell, an award-winning dancer known for her work with Michael Flatley's ‘Celtic Tiger' as well as special guest male dancer, the 4-time world champion and former lead dancer with Riverdance - Anthony Fallon.

The outstanding dance and vocal content of the show is augmented by the vast talent of the instrumentalists within the production. Led by fiddle player Lotta Virkkunena, the instrumental players have the ability to bring people to their feet without the need of reinforcement from dancers or vocalists, indeed the instrumental ensemble pieces alone provide many singular show-stopping moments within the show.

Women of Ireland showcases a select group of female artists in an effort to demonstrate the wealth of talent that exists within Ireland's traditions of music, song and dance. The common theme inherent in all performances will be the presentation of the most revered qualities of Ireland's ethnic music, which will be transported from the Irish fireside to the international concert hall platform. Special significance will be placed on depicting the pure qualities of Irish music in a contemporary setting while the performance will also include well known popular songs which will be given a stirring Celtic treatment.
