Westminster's SCRAWL Literary Magazine Places in National Competition

Posted on Wednesday, November 12, 2014

The Westminster College student literary arts publication, SCRAWL, places sixth in a "best of show" contest at the National College Media Convention in Philadelphia.

"The hard work that goes into creating a beautiful book like the one that was recognized-that is usually done by a small team of dedicated students," shares Jessica Shelenberger, SCRAWL's faculty advisor. "That's why the publication becomes quite personal. Dana Luteran and her staff of two, Sophia Yargo and Kristin Hughes, spent hours in the tiny office bringing the book to life. I'm glad to see that those efforts have been recognized on a national level."

Hosting the event was the College Media Association (CMA), which serves student media pros, staffs and programs with education, research and resources. CMA works with professional media organizations on a local, state and national level. With more than 2,000 student journalists and advisors in attendance at the fall convention, Westminster students, including this year's editor-in-chief, Phillip Howells, attended the event and submitted last spring's edition of SCRAWL. That spring edition was the literary magazine's 75th anniversary book, and was edited by Dana Luteran, who graduated in May.
