Symphony Orchestra to Present Concert Oct. 17

The Westminster College Symphony Orchestra will present a concert Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.  The event is free and open to the public.

The program includes Merle Isaac's arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Procession of the Nobles" from Mlada; "Air and Dance" by Frederick Delius; "An Outdoor Overture" by Aaron Copland; and Haydn's Symphony No. 101 in D-Major ("The Clock").

Westminster music faculty participating in the orchestra are Dr. Donald Byo, adjunct, on bassoon and Dr. Timothy Winfield, assistant professor, on trumpet.

The orchestra is conducted by interim director Dr. Daniel Perttu, associate professor and chair of Westminster's Department of Music.

 Perttu, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2008, is the music theory/composition area head.  He earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, two masters from Kent State University, and doctorate from Ohio State University.  His compositions have been performed regionally, nationally, and internationally in arts festivals, concerts, conferences, and solo recitals.  His music appears on three albums released by Navona Records and has been published by BRS Music, Inc., and Editions Musica Ferrum.
