College Adds 13 New Full-Time Faculty

Westminster College recently added 13 new full-time faculty members.

Dr. Matthew Baker, assistant professor of chemistry, earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Alfred University and Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University.  He can be reached at 724-946-6299 or email

Dr. Samuel Barbara, assistant professor of music, earned an undergraduate degree in music and master's degree in teaching from the University of Portland (Ore.) and doctor of musical arts in choral music from the University of Southern California.  He comes to Westminster from the University of Tennessee with additional teaching experience at Cleveland High School in Portland and Thüringen College in Germany.  He can be reached at 724-946-7278 or email.

Dr. Deanne Buffalari, assistant professor of psychology, earned an undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Allegheny College and Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh.  She has research and teaching experience from the University of Pittsburgh, the Medical University of South Carolina, and Chatham University.  She can be reached at 724-946-7358 or email.

Jamie Chapman, instructor of sociology and criminal justice studies, earned an undergraduate degree in history and master's degree in social sciences from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, is pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Akron, and has teaching experience at both schools.  She can be reached at 724-946-6302 or email.

John Geidner, instructor of accounting, earned an undergraduate degree in accounting and M.B.A. in finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  He is a certified public accountant licensed in Pennsylvania and Ohio and has his own practice.  He can be reached at 724-946-6832 or email.

Dr. Robert Knop, associate professor of physics, earned an undergraduate degree in physics from Harvey Mudd College and master's degree and Ph.D. in physics from the California Institute of Technology.  He comes to Westminster from Quest University Canada with additional experience at Belmont University, Linden lab, Vanderbilt University, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Diana Ortiz, assistant professor of biology, earned an undergraduate degree in biology from Universidad del Turabo in Puerto Rico, a master's in biology from Jackson State University, and Ph.D. in environmental health/vector-borne diseases from the University of South Carolina.  She comes to Westminster from Battelle Memorial Institute with additional experience from the Ohio Department of Health, the University of Texas Medical Branch, Buncombe County Health Department, and Mississippi Department of Health.  She can be reached at 724-946-7784 or email

Dr. Stephanie Richman, visiting assistant professor of psychology, earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Northwestern University and master's degree and Ph.D. in experimental social psychology and certificate in college teaching and learning from the University of Kentucky.  She comes to Westminster from Eastern Kentucky University.  She can be reached at 724-946-7356 or email.

Eloise Stevens, assistant professor and instruction and outreach librarian, earned an undergraduate degree in history from Eastern Connecticut State University and master's degree in library and information science from the University of Pittsburgh.  She comes to Westminster from Chatham University, where she was a reference associate.  She has additional experience with the United Way of Allegheny County, Carnegie Public Library, West Springfield Public Library, and as a technology and information literacy tutor.  She can be reached at 724-946-7325 or email.
