Students Awarded Scholarships from The Pittsburgh Foundation

Two Westminster College students recently received scholarships through The Pittsburgh Foundation.  The awards will be applied to the students' tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Lisa Orr, a freshman music education major, received a $500 award from the Charles "Chubby" Brown Memorial Fund.  She is a daughter of Douglas and Anne Orr of Glenshaw and a graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Rachel Read, a sophomore music education major, received the first payment of a $15,108 four-year scholarship funded by the Emery C. Toth Jr. Scholarship Trust.  She is a daughter of Robert and Ruth Read of Harrison City and a graduate of Penn-Trafford High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation and their scholarship funds for their support of bright, motivated students, who represent the future of our region," said Grady Jones, Westminster's vice president for institutional advancement.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the United States, awarding more than $41.1 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2011.  Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of the community.  Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest anywhere in the U.S.
