Westminster College Student Awarded Scholarship from The Pittsburgh Foundation

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College student Cassandra Ackerman recently received a scholarship through The Pittsburgh Foundation. The award will be applied to the student's tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Ackerman received a $507 award from the Fox Educational Fund. Ackerman, a freshman biology major, is a daughter of David Ackerman and a graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation for their scholarship funds," said Grady B. Jones, Westminster's vice president for institutional advancement.  "Through these funds, Westminster students are given the freedom of obtaining a solid liberal arts education, without the distraction of financial burden. Not only do these funds directly impact bright and motivated students, but also the community, as our students will graduate and continue the Westminster tradition of moral and ethical commitments to neighbor, society, and responsible service as world citizens."

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the United States, awarding more than $41 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2011.  Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of the community.  Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest anywhere in the U.S.
