Three Westminster College Student Present Senior Art Exhibit

Posted on Thursday, April 21, 2005

Three Westminster College seniors, Traci Campbell, Merrianne McGill, and Meghan Michielsen are displaying art projects through May 14 at the Westminster College Art Gallery, which is open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, noon-6 p.m.

Campbell, a fine art major, is a daughter of Connie Gramm, Orlando, Fla., and a graduate of Mercer High School.  "The media I used was digital photography, and my theme is Home Harvest,'" Campbell said.  "I have a series of larger black and white photographs that I took and developed that represent the farm where I live.  I also have a collection of 19 small color and black and white photographs that also represent the farm and the life that it holds."

McGill, a fine art and public relations major and a six-year employee of Westminster, resides in Volant with her husband, Jon, and their two daughters.  "During my 3-D sculpture class, I fell in love with sculpting the human head in clay," McGill said.  "I found the process both relaxing and a spiritual journey.  My show is a mini tour' of the Westminster campus , one that represents the people of the College.  The busts symbolize just a few of the many departments on campus and the people who work behind the scenes to guide Westminster's students through their college careers.  The clay represents Westminster's strong foundation, one of strength and substance."

Michielsen, an art major, is a daughter of Neil and Dara Michielsen, Vernon, N.J., and a graduate of Vernon Township High School.  "My exhibit consists of character model sheets and story boards that allow an easier time animating," Michielsen said.  "The story board tells the story while, the character model sheets show the dimensions of the character that gives an animator more information.  I have loved telling stories ever since I was little, and bringing the story to life has always been my dream.  With my characters I am able to touch the hearts of people.  I guess this impact is what drives me to create my characters and give them life to share with the rest of the world."
