Music Professor Was Guest Conductor for Beaver County Festival

Dr. Melinda Crawford Perttu, Westminster College assistant professor of music, was guest conductor of the string orchestra at the Beaver County Chorus and String Festival Jan. 12-13 at Western Beaver High School in Industry.

The string ensemble included students from grades eight-12 who play violin, viola, cello, or bass.  They represented Beaver High School, Blackhawk School District, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, and Beaver County Christian School.

The festival was two days of rehearsals followed by a concert Friday evening.

Crawford Perttu, who serves as director of the Westminster College Symphony Orchestra, joined the faculty full time in 2011.  She earned an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and master's degree and Ph.D. from Ohio State University.  She has studied Gaelic, fiddling, and fiddle pedagogy at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Scotland.
