Biology Majors Presented Senior Capstone Research

Thirty-seven Westminster College biology and molecular biology majors presented their senior capstone research posters Dec. 2 in the Witherspoon Rooms of McKelvey Campus Center.

Faculty advisers for the projects are: Dr. Joseph Balczon, associate professor; Dr. Joshua Corrette-Bennett, associate professor and chair of the department; Dr. Kerri Cornell Duerr, assistant professor; Dr. Marosh Furimsky, assistant professor; Dr. Karen Resendes, assistant professor; Dr. John Robertson, associate professor; Dr. Katherine Robertson, associate professor; and Dr. Ann Throckmorton, professor.

At Westminster, the final component of liberal studies is a senior study, or capstone, course.  The capstone is a four-semester-hour (minimum) course within the major designed to provide an opportunity for students to evaluate and assess the strengths and limitations of their major field.

The capstone experience permits opportunity for structured reflection on the value of education in and beyond the major and provides an opportunity to strengthen communication and problem-solving skills.
