Westminster College is hosting an international week through March 11 in an effort to make students more aware of global happenings and to celebrate the various cultures at Westminster.
Sandra Edmiston, a senior English major and organizer of the event hopes to bring a better sense of cultural understanding to the campus. She said, "Our international students have valuable reflections on America that I think would be beneficial for our campus to hear."
"In my international politics class we are constantly talking about how little we know about the rest of the world," Edmiston continued. "I thought International Week might be a chance to help Westminster learn a bit more global news."
International week is open to all students and faculty. Events include a Peace Studies Coffeehouse scheduled Wednesday, March 9 at 4 p.m. in the Berlin Club Room of the McKelvey Campus Center, where participants may discuss topics ranging from international relations and politics to the American pop culture effect on the rest of the world. Students and faculty with international connections will have the opportunity to share their views on American culture.
Westminster International Student Hospitality (WISH) potluck dinner is scheduled Thursday, March 10, from 7-9 p.m. in the Witherspoon Maple Room of the McKelvey Campus Center. Students from Korea, Denmark, Germany, and Ireland will have samples of foods from their countries and be available to discuss their culture.
