Art Professor Participated in Artist Residency

Posted on Thursday, September 8, 2011

Summer Zickefoose, Westminster College visiting assistant professor of art, participated in an artist residency at the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts Aug. 14-26 in Newcastle, Maine.

Zickefoose organized "Actions + Material," an artist-invites-artists residency that brought together nine artists from Canada and the United States who shared in interest in performance art and ceramics.  Many of the artists are active in writing, curating, and criticism.

The residency fostered dialogue and developed support theory surrounding the use of performance in conjunction with a traditional craft medium.  Participants explored ideas surrounding their focus on performative work incorporating the body, reliant on audience participation, reciprocal actions, and collaborative events.

Zickefoose, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2010, earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Iowa and master of fine art degree from the University of Florida.
