College to Host "Invisible Children" Program

Posted on Monday, September 5, 2011

Westminster College will host "Invisible Children: Frontline Tour" Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Witherspoon Lakeview Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.  The program is free and open to the public.

Invisible Children, Inc. is a non-profit established by three young filmmakers who create documentaries to transform apathy into activism.  Their initial trip to Africa produced "Invisible Children: Rough Cut," a film that exposed the tragic realities of northern Uganda's night commuters and child soldiers.

At Westminster, Invisible Children will screen its new documentary "Tony" and discuss ongoing efforts to protect people from Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) violence, which began 25 years ago in northern Uganda and has since spread across the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and southern Sudan.  This work includes an Early Warning Radio Network, a collection of radio towers that allows remote communities to access information they need to protect themselves against the LRA.

The program is sponsored by Westminster's Peace Studies Program and Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Contact Dr. Sherri Pataki, Peace Studies Program coordinator, at (724) 946-7361 or email for additional information.  Visit www.invisiblechildren.com to learn more about Invisible Children, Inc. and its work.
