E-Recycling Drive Set for May 7

Posted on Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Westminster College's Audio Visual Services will sponsor its fourth electronics recycling drive Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m.-noon at the Hoyt Science Resources Center loading dock.

AV staff members will assist a crew from A GreenSpan Computer Recycling, Inc., a certified E-Steward recycler from Pittsburgh, in collecting electronic devices for recycling.  Items accepted include computers and monitors, gaming systems, microwave ovens, televisions, and other outdated technology.  A small fee will be collected for each item recycled.

The E-Steward certification identifies recyclers that responsibly reuse and/or safely break down the items within North America.  The fees collected help cover that expense.  Westminster volunteers its services and retains no money from the fees.

Westminster's fall drive collected over 6,000 pounds of electronic devices, bringing the total from the three Westminster events to 11,000 pounds.

"Every drive has seen increased participation, so we're all excited to see just how much we can collect at this one," said Kevin Van Bell, AV technical support manager and senior history major.

Van Bell is a son of Craig and Ellen Van Bell of McKean and a graduate of General McLane High School.
