Chemistry Professor Participated in Undergraduate Faculty Workshop

Posted on Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Dr. Helen Boylan, Westminster College associate professor of chemistry, was a panelist at the "Postdoc to Professor" workshop April 6-8 at Hope College in Holland, Mich.

The workshop, subtitled "Preparing Postdocs for Undergraduate Faculty Careers in Chemistry," focused on postdoctoral fellows considering faculty positions in the chemical sciences at primarily undergraduate institutions.

"I was able to discuss what faculty life is like in Westminster's chemistry department," Boylan said.  "Teaching is our primary responsibility, but we view undergraduate research as an important way to educate students."

The workshop was jointly sponsored by the National Science Foundation, American Chemical Society Education Division, and Hope College.

Boylan, a Westminster graduate who joined the faculty in 2001, earned a Ph.D. from Duquesne University.
