Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence to Speak at Faires Faculty Forum

Posted on Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Dr. Yehuda Peled, Westminster College Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, will speak at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Peled, who is head of the Information Studies Department at Western Galilee College in Israel, will speak on various aspects of his current research, specifically in regard to college students. Two research activities will be described in relative detail: multi-drafting as a means to enhance meaningful learning using a learning management systems environment and whether academic procrastination is stronger than a good grade and academic dishonesty as a tool for survival.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.

Peled is teaching at Westminster for the 2010-2011 academic year as part of the Fulbright Program, a federally-funded exchange program administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and those of other countries.
