Music Faculty to Present Faculty Forum

Westminster College music faculty Dr. Daniel Perttu, assistant professor, Dr. Nancy DeSalvo, associate professor, and James Flowers, adjunct, will present at the Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 11:40 a.m. in Orr Auditorium.

"Musical Architecture in 'Towers of Dalmatia: A Rhapsody for Saxophone and Piano,'" will examine the various musical structures that undergird one of Perttu's latest compositions. DeSalvo on piano and Flowers on saxophone will perform examples to illustrate the points.

Perttu, who joined the Westminster faculty in 2008, is the music theory program coordinator. He earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, two masters from Kent State University, and doctorate from Ohio State University. His compositions have been performed regionally, nationally, and internationally in arts festivals, concerts, conferences, and solo recitals. His peer-reviewed articles have been published in three journals. He was recently commissioned by the Johnstone Fund for New Music at the Columbus Foundation and is working on a commission for chorus and orchestra from the Shenango Valley Chorale in Sharon.

DeSalvo, who has been with Westminster since 2000, earned an undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University, master's from Manhattan School of Music, and doctorate from The Cleveland Institute of Music.

Flowers earned an undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University and master's from Bowling Green State University.
