College Offers Fall Continuing Education Classes

Westminster College announces several personal enrichment and leisure courses for community residents, covering interests ranging from understanding football to glass painting and learning a new language.

Continuing Education classes and seminars are non-credit and are open to all interested individuals. Formal admission to Westminster College is not required.

Five personal enrichment classes are included this semester:

"Are You Ready for Some Football?" will be held Mondays, Sept. 20, 27, Oct. 4, and 11, from 7-8 p.m. in room 303 in Old Main. Designed primarily for women (men are welcome), this class teaches the ABCs of understanding America's favorite fall sport.

Glass painting/grapes will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Glass painting/snowflakes, primitive snowmen, pine branches is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in room 206 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Résumé writing will be offered Monday, Nov. 22, from 6-8 p.m. This class will cover creating or updating a winning résumé; writing a cover letter; and improving interviewing skills.

Beginning Polish Language is scheduled for Wednesdays, Oct. 20, 27, and Nov. 3, and 10, from 6:30-8 p.m. This introductory class will emphasize vocabulary used in everyday situations. No previous knowledge of Polish is required.
Personal fitness classes are scheduled in three sessions: Session A runs from Sept. 13 through Oct. 9; session B runs from Oct. 11 through Nov. 6; and session C runs from Nov. 8 through Dec. 10 (no classes Nov. 22-27). Classes are held in the dance studio in Old 77.

Hatha Yoga classes run all three sessions on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. Participants learn how to improve their strength, balance, respiration, and fitness level by stretching and strengthening muscles, joints, and spine.

Prop-Based Yoga classes will be offered Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15 p.m. during all three sessions. This style of yoga uses props such as blocks and straps to aid in achieving alignment and stability in each pose.

Zumba© fuses musical rhythms and movement to create a dynamic workout that is designed to be fun and easy to do. Classes will be held Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. during all three sessions.

Zumba Gold© is scheduled for Thursdays, Sept. 16, 23, 30, and Oct. 7. This class will introduce the four basic rhythms used, along with modifications to increase/lower heart rate for individual needs.

Computer classes are designed to meet the needs of the beginner to the accomplished user. All computer classes are hands-on workshops and are held in room 214 of Patterson Hall.

Microsoft Word 2007 is scheduled Wednesdays, Oct. 6, 13, and 20, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This course is designed for students with some computer experience with typing and using the mouse.

Microsoft Excel 2007, an introductory class, is scheduled for Wednesdays, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, 10, and 17, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
