Symphonic Band Presented Mid-Winter Concert

The Westminster College Symphonic Band presented a mid-winter concert March 19 in Orr Auditorium.

Included in the program was Anton Reicha's "Quintet in E Flat," featuring the Westminster Faculty Woodwind Quintet: William Byo on bassoon; Louis Colella on clarinet; David Tessmer on flute; 2009 Westminster graduate James Scanga filling in for Heather Johnson on horn; and senior music and Christian education major Jennie Smith substituting for Shawn Reynolds on oboe.

Other selections on the program were: "English Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; "Poem" by Scott Boerma; "Incantation and Dance" by John Barnes Chance; "American Elegy" by Frank Ticheli; and "Fairest of the Fair" by John Philip Sousa.

The band is under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, associate professor and director of bands, who serves as chair of Westminster's Department of Music.
