Political Science Professor to Discuss Q Methodology at Faculty Forum

Posted on Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Dr. James Rhoads, Westminster College associate professor of political science, will present "Applications of Q Methodology in Political Science" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Q Methodology is a research method used to study people's subjectivity or viewpoint. It has been used in clinical settings for assessing patients, as well as in research settings to examine how people think about a subject.

Q Methodology was used to reveal the subjectivity of moviegoers who watched Death of a President, the controversial 2006 film that depicted the fictional assassination of U.S. President George W. Bush in documentary style. The film uses the assassination to explore many political themes in post-9/11 America.

Rhoads, who has been with Westminster since 1992, earned an undergraduate degree, master's, and Ph.D. from Kent State University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
