Westminster College students in the public relations capstone class taught by Dr. Suzanne Prestien, assistant professor of English and public relations, won the nationwide "Just Skoobit" marketing-communications campaign contest.

Skoobit, an online textbook rental service, challenged students to develop a promotional campaign on their respective campuses for the chance to receive a semester of free textbook rentals. The contest provided an opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to help spread the word about Skoobit's services.

Members of AJR & Partners, an award-winning public relations firm based in Miami, formed the judging committee. They cited the Westminster students' thorough campaign that included extensive research, planning, execution, and evaluation.

"The students created original promotional materials, obtained press coverage in the school newspaper, held events, and effectively used social media outlets such as Facebook to promote the textbook rental company," stated the announcement letter from the committee. "An especially impressive aspect about Westminster's campus promotion was their ability to tie Skoobit's eco-friendly initiatives into the project."

The winning group's efforts resulted in nearly 250 Westminster students registering on Skoobit's Web site.

Ten members of the Westminster group will receive a semester of free textbook rentals.
