Celebrity Series to Close Season with "Bye Bye Birdie"

Posted on Monday, May 4, 2009

The Westminster College Celebrity Series will close its 2008-2009 season with Bye Bye Birdie Saturday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

When rock star Conrad Birdie gets drafted, his agent organizes a nationwide contest. The prize is a farewell kiss from Conrad on The Ed Sullivan Show. Conrad and his entourage descend on the winning girl's neighborhood, much to the chagrin of her irritable father and her jealous boyfriend.

The full-scale Broadway touring production features the great songs that earned the show eight Tony Awards: "Put on a Happy Face," "A Lot of Living to Do," "One Boy," and the lament of parents with teenagers, "What's the Matter with Kids Today?"

The show is sponsored by Huntington Bank.

Good seats are still available. Contact Connie McGinnis, assistant director of the Celebrity Series, at (724) 946-7354 (e-mail mcginncl@westminster.edu) or visit www.westminster.edu/Celebrity for more information.
