Computer Science Professor to Share Sabbatical Experiences at Faculty Forum

Posted on Friday, March 27, 2009

Dr. C. David Shaffer, Westminster College associate professor of computer science, will present "If Engineers Built Bridges the Way Programmers Build Programs..." at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, April 1, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

Shaffer's non-technical report on his sabbatical will focus on his efforts to improve the state-of-the-art for testing on small scales (component scale) in one Web-development technology. He will also discuss lessons to be learned from his book publishing efforts during the sabbatical.

Shaffer, who has been with Westminster since 2000, earned an undergraduate degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
