Posted on Monday, March 16, 2009

Westminster College music majors are participating in a number of off-campus activities as part of the Youth Choirs class taught by Kathryn Miller, Westminster College organist and adjunct faculty member.

Claudia Brown, a senior sacred music and music education major, is a daughter of Ronald Brown of Pittsburgh and Gaynelle Shepherd of Sierra Vista, Ariz. She is a graduate of North Hills High School.

Amanda Gentzel, a senior sacred music and computer science major, is a daughter of David and Margaret Gentzel of Wexford and a graduate of Pine-Richland High School.

Emilie Stuart, a sophomore sacred music major, is a daughter of Jerome and Sandra Stuart of Carlisle and a graduate of Carlisle High School.

They are working with Christian Performing Kids (CPK), a group of seventh- and eighth-grade students from Seneca Valley Middle School, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Zelienople. CPK is rehearsing God's Way, an original musical composed by Bill Brewer, pastor at St. Paul. The Westminster students have been invited to intern with CPK during their summer production.

In addition, they have observed and participated in a variety of sacred music opportunities including hand bell and gospel choir rehearsals and worship opportunities at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church.
