Peace Studies Coffeehouse to Feature Student from Northern Ireland

The Westminster College Peace Studies Coffeehouse on Northern Ireland will be held Wednesday, March 4, at 4:15 p.m. in room 314 of Thompson Clark Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The audience is invited to learn more about Northern Ireland and the transition to peace following the 1998 Good Friday Agreement signed in Belfast.

Scheduled to speak are:

Christopher Purce is an international exchange student from Teplepatrick, County Antrim, about 20 minutes from Belfast. Purce is a student at the University of Ulster - Coleraine Campus, located on the northeast coast, and is attending Westminster through the British Council's Business Education Initiative.

Dr. Sherri Pataki, Westminster assistant professor of psychology and coordinator of the coffeehouse, attended the 2008 International Summer School Program on post-conflict reconciliation at the International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE) at the University of Ulster in Derry/Londonderry. INCORE, established in 1993, is a joint project of the United Nations University and the University of Ulster. It combines research, education, and comparative analysis to address the causes and consequences of conflict in Northern Ireland and internationally, and promotes conflict resolution management strategies.

Pataki, who has been with Westminster since 2004, earned an undergraduate degree from Allegheny College and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
