Westminster College to Celebrate National Non-Traditional Student Recognition Week

Posted on Monday, October 27, 2008

Westminster College will celebrate National Non-Traditional Student Week Nov. 2-8 with events focused on students in Westminster's Lifelong Learning Program (LLP).

In general, non-traditional students are adult students who are attending college later than the traditional ages of 18-22. Many are working, raising families, single parents, and/or finishing a life goal that was not available to them when they graduated high school.

Elizabeth Hines, a 1970 Westminster graduate and director of Westminster's Lifelong Learning Program, said, "At Westminster, LLP students pursue college-level study while either younger (still in high school) or older (currently, ages 24-56) than traditional undergraduate students. Most are working on a bachelor's degree; others are taking classes for pre-college or pre-graduate school enrichment or for post-baccalaureate certification."

Highlights of the week include:
- Daily treats for all in the LLP office (McKelvey Campus Center 267)
- Special gifts, a door prize, and a bookstore discount certificate for current LLP students
- A display highlighting LLP students
- Bring-a-friend-to-class opportunity

The week's activities culminate in the third annual LLP family dinner Friday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Tuscany Square Ristorante in New Castle. Westminster President Dr. Richard Dorman and his wife, Beverly, will be special guests.
