Posted on Thursday, October 2, 2008

Sara Ergen, a Westminster College sophomore public relations major, received a $10,000 scholarship, payable over four years, from the George and Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation.

The award will be applied to Ergen's tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Ergen is a daughter of James and Deborah Ergen of McKees Rocks and a graduate of Montour High School.

"We are grateful to The Pittsburgh Foundation and their scholarship funds for their support of bright, motivated students like Sara, who represent the future of our region," said Gloria Cagigas, vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the oldest community foundations in the U.S., awarding more than $36.8 million in grants to a vast array of nonprofit organizations, students through scholarships, and medical researchers in 2006. Since 1945, The Pittsburgh Foundation has been connecting its generous donors with the critical needs of the community. Donors who have established funds through the Foundation can support virtually any area of charitable interest.
