Associate Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Friday, September 26, 2008

Dr. Timothy Sherwood, Westminster College associate professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry, will speak on "Moving Graveyards: Course, Textbook and Curriculum Reform" at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

Changing curriculum has been likened to moving a graveyard. Sherwood will describe his experience writing an organic chemistry textbook and the creative process to provide resources which can encourage curricular and pedagogical reform.

Sherwood, who has been with Westminster since 1999, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Sciences in Philadelphia and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
