Preschool Playground to be Dedicated

Posted on Monday, September 22, 2008

The Westminster College Preschool Lab will dedicate its new playground facility Monday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. in room 145 of the Hoyt Science Resources Center.

Scheduled to speak at the dedication are Westminster College President Dr. Richard H. Dorman; Dr. Alan Gittis, Westminster professor and chair of the Department of Psychology; Dr. Mandy Medvin, Gibson-Drinko Distinguished Chair of Psychology and director of Westminster's preschool lab; and Charles Y. Mansell, a 1968 Westminster College alumnus and member of the board of directors for the May Emma Hoyt Foundation.

The event, which is open to the public, will be followed by a reception sponsored by Central Heating and Plumbing.

Preschool head teacher Diana Reed and preschool teacher Debi Roud developed the project. A grant from the Hoyt Foundation in New Castle and additional support from Westminster funded the ADA-accessible play and climbing structure with slides and a "spinner bowl."

"We are thrilled with the new playground and the creative opportunities for play that it provides the children in our program and from the surrounding community," Medvin said. "Our thanks to the Hoyt Foundation for their generous gift."
