Student Receives Grant for Undergraduate Biology Research

Posted on Friday, September 5, 2008

The Westminster College Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning awarded an undergraduate research grant to Julie Alderson, a Westminster College senior biology major.

Alderson's research, "The Affects of Alpha-Phenyl-Tert-Butyl Nitrone on Axolotl Limb Regeneration," is advised by Dr. Joshua Corrette-Bennett, Westminster College associate professor of biology.

Alderson is a daughter of Craig and Sandra Alderson of Prosperity and a graduate of Trinity High School.

"An important component of the work of the Drinko Center is to enhance opportunities for undergraduate research," said Dr. Terri Lenox, Westminster College associate professor of computer science and co-director of the Drinko Center. "The Undergraduate Research Initiative provides funding for students to conduct research and to present their research at regional and national conferences."

All grant recipients have the opportunity to participate in Westminster's Undergraduate Research Symposium in April.
