Posted on Monday, December 3, 2007

Westminster College will continue a long-standing tradition with the presentation of "The Christmas Miracle...Celebrating the Birth of the Christ Child" at Christmas Vespers on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

The annual worship service includes music from a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles; liturgical dancers; Scripture readings; carols; a dramatic presentation; and "Miracle of Miracles," the message from Westminster College Chaplain the Rev. James R. Mohr II.

Additional faculty and staff participating are: Father Philip Farrell, rector of St. Camillus Church in New Castle; Kathryn Davison Miller, Westminster College organist; Kathleen Schott, director of The Westminster Flute Choir; David Tessmer, coordinator of The Woodwind Quartet; Robert Cole, coordinator of The French Horns; Dr. R. Tad Greig, coordinator of The Brass Quintet; Gina Sharbaugh, artistic director of Dance Theatre; Dr. Robin Lind, director of choral activities; Mr. Kris Harper, director of Women's Chorus; James Henderson, director of Gospel Choir; and Anne Bruening, director of Handbell Choirs.

Members of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and campus ministry team will provide ushers. Richard Maggazine will provide interpretation for the deaf.

Angel Tree gifts that will be displayed in Orr Lobby were purchased by members of the campus community for children in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Lawrence County. Members of the Chapel Staff Service Team and Kappa Delta sorority coordinated the effort.

Offerings collected will be used to support various mission work trips from Westminster throughout the year.

The service will air live Dec. 9 on New Wilmington Cable channel 9 and Comcast channel 10. It will be video taped by Westminster broadcast communications students for re-broadcast Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m.

The Chapel Staff will host a reception and time of fellowship in Orr Lobby and the Art Gallery following the service.
