Broadcast Communications Students Give Senior Capstones

Seven Westminster College students gave their senior capstone research Monday, April 30, at Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

The final component of Liberal Studies at Westminster is a senior capstone course, which is at least a four-semester-hour course within the major designed to provide an opportunity for students to evaluate and assess the strengths and limitations of their major field.

The first session began at 11:30 a.m. with the following students giving their presentations:

Pittsburgh, PA
Stevi Nelson
is a daughter of Marybeth Nelson. Nelson, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Perry Traditional Academy. Her presentation is titled "My So Called Life After Westminster."
"I will present my capstone by highlighting elements from my radio and television resume tapes. I will connect this to how my experience in broadcasting as well as my coursework at Westminster inside and outside the major have helped prepare me for what lies ahead after commencement."

Matawan, NJ
Elizabeth Farry
is a daughter of James and Corliss Farry. Farry, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Matawan Regional High School. Her presentation is titled "Telling the Story of my Future."
"My presentation will highlight the things I've done during my time at Westminster, both on campus and off, which have not only prepared me for a career in broadcasting, but have shaped who I am today. I'll show some of my work and talk a bit about how that's going to help me get where I'm going."

The second session began at 6 p.m. with the following students giving their presentations:

Butler, PA
Michael Wolenski
is a son of Thomas and Maureen Wolenski. Wolenski, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Peters Township High School. His presentation is titled "Famous Last Words."
"San Francisco, California; Youngstown, Ohio; New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. A collision of cities shape the college experience for Michael Wolenski. This presentation is a review of my senior project, liberal arts experience, and body of work."

New Castle, PA
Leanne Veres
is a daughter of Steve and Lisa Veres. Veres, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Shenango High School. Her presentation is titled "Experience: A Major Stepping Stone."
"I will explain how my liberal arts education and experience in broadcasting has opened doors for me in other fields, and I will also showcase my works with Titan Radio, The County Line, WKST (Forever Broadcasting), FSN Pittsburgh, and The Holcad."

Delmont, PA
Amy Lavallee
is a daughter of William Lavallee. Lavallee, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Franklin Regional High School. Her presentation is titled "Our Own Little World and Beyond."
"I plan on talking about my years at Westminster, what I did in broadcasting and how it worked for me, and I will show my E-portfolio."

East Palestine, OH
Daniel Yokley
is a son of Susan and Daniel Yokley. Yokley, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of East Palestine High School. His presentation is titled "Pursuit of Happiness."
"I want to share highlights of my senior project as well as touch on my work with sports broadcasting on Titan Radio, WCN, and Titantown Sports. My goal: ESPN, and with hard work and determination, I know I can get there."

Pittsburgh, PA
Aidan Mewha
is a daughter of Douglas and Mary A. Mewha. Mewha, a senior broadcast communications major, is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. Her presentation is titled "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time..."
"I will demonstrate how my strong skills in broadcasting have combined with the rest of my liberal arts education to create a supernova of creative energy that was released in the form of my sitcom script and short film screenplay. I will also showcase some of my broadcasting highlights at Westminster and possibly perform an interpretive dance."
