English Professors to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Friday, April 27, 2007

Dr. Deborah Mitchell, Westminster College associate professor of English, and Dr. Betsy Ford, Westminster College English professor emerita, will speak at the Faculty Forum, Wednesday, May 2, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Mitchell and Ford will speak about their new book, Royal Biopics: Filming the Lives of Queens. The two read many biographies and primary sources about the queens they were studying to see how their real lives translated to film.

"In our current project, we discovered that the lives of powerful women have fallen into several narrow interpretations," Ford and Mitchell said.

Mitchell, who has been with Westminster College since 1992, earned her undergraduate and master's degrees at Youngstown State University and her Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University.

Ford taught at Westminster from 1989-2005. She earned her undergraduate and master's degrees from Youngstown State University and her Ph.D. from Kent State University.

Faculty Forum, established in 1990, serves as a venue for the exchange of ideas and information among Westminster College faculty. Speakers present their research, teaching ideas, lectures, performances, special programs, and uses of technology to keep faculty informed about the work of colleagues from many disciplines.

The event is free and open to the public. Contact Mitchell at (724) 946-7030 or e-mail dmitchel@westminster.edu for more information.
