Students Participate in Psychology Convention

Westminster College psychology students will attend and present their research at the 35th annual Hunter College Psychology Convention/11th annual North East Undergraduate Research Organization for Neuroscience (NEURON) conference in New York City April 28.

NEURON provides an open forum for neuroscience students to present and discuss their work with students and faculty who share similar interests. The annual one-day conference that focuses on enhancing neuroscience training provides workshops in which students and faculty discuss important issues in neuroscience. The diversity of the agenda allows for a well-rounded opportunity for all attendees to engage in rigorous science, while promoting the development of neuroscientists in training.

The following Westminster College psychology majors will present their research at the conference.

Monaca, PA
Kristin Tarzia is a daughter of Dominic and Judy Tarzia. Tarzia, a senior neuroscience and psychology major, is a graduate of Center High School. Her presentation, titled "Modeling the Development of Depression: Contribution of Acute and Chronic Stress on Rat Performance in the Morris Water Maze," was advised by Dr. Alan Gittis.

Rices Landing, PA
Lindsey Davis is a daughter of Mark and Amanda Davis. Davis, a senior neuroscience major, is a graduate of Jefferson Morgan High School. Her presentation, titled "The Involvement of the Anterior Cingulate Cortex in Effort-based Decisions with Varying Reward Probabilities," was supervised by Dr. Alan Gittis.

Smethport, PA
Alexandra Alfieri is a daughter of Michele Alfieri and Anthony Alfieri, Smethport. Alfieri, a freshman neuroscience major, is a graduate of Smethport Area High School. She will attend the conference.

Harrisburg, PA
Melissa Gnech is a daughter of Costante and Cynthia Gnech. Gnech, a sophomore neuroscience major, is a graduate of Central Dauphin High School. Her presentation, titled "Choice Behavior in Rats: Spatial Strategy or Neuroeconomic Decision Making?" was advised by Dr. Alan Gittis.
