Westminster College Announces Homecoming Court

Twelve Westminster College students were picked to serve as the homecoming court during the festivities planned for Saturday, Oct. 16.

The candidates represent sorority, fraternity and independent selections.  The student body will vote for the king and queen and will be announced during halftime of Saturday's 1:30 p.m. football game versus Bethany College.

The following are nominated for Queen:

Pittsburgh, PA
 Colleen Byrnes, an independent candidate, is a daughter of Raymond and Cheryl Byrnes.   Byrnes, a junior elementary education major, is a graduate of Penn Hills High School.  She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student Alumni Association, the Student Westminster Admissions Team, the Student Life and Athletic Council, Fresh Start and Alpha Psi Omega (theater honor society).  Byrnes has been inducted into Lambda Sigma Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi (education honor society).  She is also a volunteer tutor at Mohawk Elementary School.

Irwin, PA
 Amy Schroder, the Sigma Kappa candidate, is a daughter of Jeffrey and Charlene Schroder.   Schroder, a junior elementary education and Spanish major, is a graduate of Penn-Trafford High School.  She is vice president of recruitment and continuing member chairman for Sigma Kappa.  She is also involved in Titan Traverse, Kappa Delta Pi (international education honor society), Religious Life Council, Seekers, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a resident advisor.  She also volunteers at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church.

Latrobe, PA
 Laura Jones, the Zeta Tau Alpha candidate, is a daughter of Bruce and Jessie Jones.   Jones, a junior Spanish major, is a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School.  Jones serves as Zeta Alpha's Panhellenic representative and is also vice president of Panhel.  While at Westminster, she has been an active member of SADD, Fresh Start, Sigma Delta Pi (national Spanish honor society), the cheerleading squad.  She spends time volunteering at the Westminster Preschool Lab, and tutoring at Mohawk Elementary School.

Enon Valley, PA
Christy Martin, the Alpha Gamma Delta candidate, is a daughter of Ronald and Cindy Martin.   Martin, a junior business administration major, is a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.  She serves as activities coordinator for Alpha Gamma Delta.  She is also involved in SADD, and is part of the Fresh Start staff.

Hubbard, OH
 Sarah Blasko, the Kappa Delta candidate, is a daughter of James and Julianne Blasko.   Blasko, a junior French and international business major, is a graduate of Hubbard High School. She is secretary of Kappa Delta sorority.  She also serves as vice president for Pi Delta Phi (French honor society), and is a member of SADD, the College Democrats, and the Titan Marching Band. 

Boothbay, ME
 Abbigail Harvey, the Phi Mu candidate, is a daughter of Barbara and William Harvey.  Harvey, a junior elementary education major, is a graduate of Boothbay Region High School.  She is the provisional membership director for Phi Mu, fundraising chair of the Student Government Association.  She is a member of the women's tennis team, the Student Westminster Admission Team (SWAT), and Students Against Drunk Drivers (SADD). 

The following are nominated for King:

McDonald, PA
 Benjamin Libert, the independent candidate, is a son of Lee and Carolyn Libert.   Libert, a senior religion major, is a graduate of Fort Cherry High School.  He is the logistic chair for Seekers, a member of the men's cross country and tennis teams, and active in the Fellowship for Christian Athletes, Newman Club, Student Government Association, Student Alumni Association, Students in Free Enterprise, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, is also the co-cartoonist for the Holcad.

Connellsville, PA
 James Connell, the Theta Chi candidate, is a son of Stephanie and Michael Connell.   Connell, a junior elementary education major, is a graduate of Geibel High School.  He is scholarship chair for Theta Chi.  He is also a member of the Campus Programming Committee, Alpha Psi Omega (theater honor society), Westminster Theatre, Student Westminster Admissions Team, and Fresh Start.

New Castle, PA
 Richard Humphrey, the Sigma Phi Epsilon candidate, is a son of Karen Ionta and Richard Humphrey.  Humphrey, a junior business administration and Spanish major, is a graduate of Neshannock High School.  He is vice president of recruitment for Sigma Phi Epsilon, and is the recruitment chair of the Intrafraternity Council.  He is a member of SADD, the Student Alumni Association, the Student Government Association, the Newman Club, Greek Week committee, and on the Fresh Start staff.

Edinburg, PA
 Benjamin Mentzer, the Phi Kappa Tau candidate, is a son Patricia and the late Fred Mentzer.   Mentzer, a junior elementary education major, is a graduate of Mohawk Area High School.  He serves as the chaplain of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, treasurer and singer in the Gospel Choir, and plays the baritone horn in the marching and symphonic bands. 

Conneaut Lake, PA
 Jeffrey Brownlee, the Alpha Sigma Phi candidate, is a son of Harry and Kathleen Brownlee.  Brownlee, a sophomore public relations major, is a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School.  He is the social chair and alumni officer for Alpha Sigma Pi, and was also a member of the Student Government Association.

Cuyahoga Falls, OH
 Joshua Perry, the Sigma Nu candidate, is a son of Georgann and Rick Perry.  Perry, a junior public relations major, is a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. He serves as the treasurer for Sigma Nu, and a former football player.
