American Tenor Gregory Mercer to Perform

American tenor Gregory Mercer will perform at Westminster College Wednesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Mercer has been hailed throughout the world for the sweetness and agility of his voice, his musicality, and his acting ability. He is equally at home on opera, concert, and recital stages.

He has sung with The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera's Western Opera Theater, Virginia Opera, L'Opera Francais de New York, as well as opera companies in Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Basel, Graz, Caracas, Prague, and Japan.

As a concert artist, Mercer was featured with many major orchestras, including The Saint Luke's Chamber Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and many others.

This program, which will be accompanied by Dr. Nancy DeSalvo, a Westminster College assistant professor of music, includes: Handel's "Comfort Ye, My People" and "Ev'ry Valley Shall be Exalted" from The Messiah; Schubert's "Der Neugierige;" Beethoven's "Adelaide;" Brahms' "Wie bist du meine Koenigin;" Schumann's "Widmung;" Chausson's "Le Colibri" and "Le temp des lilas;" Faure's "Lydia" and "Nell;" Quilter's "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal," "Go Lovely Rose," and "Love's Philosophy;" and Argento's "Winter."
