Westminster Hosts Western Pennsylvania Diversity Consortium

Posted on Monday, September 11, 2006

Westminster College's Office of Diversity Services recently hosted the Western Pennsylvania Diversity Consortium (WPDC) meeting.

"Westminster is a founding member of the WPDC, a network of student affairs professionals of color at institutions of higher education in Western Pennsylvania," said Jeannette Hooks Hubbard, Westminster College director of diversity services. "The WPDC serves as a tool to professionals of color and students of color in Western Pennsylvania. During the meeting we shared methods, ideas, and expertise pertaining to ways to address diversity, multiculturalism and social justice issues.

One of the events discussed at the meeting was the third annual Harambee Summit, which will be held Friday-Sunday, Nov. 3-5, at Clarion University.

"The Harambee Summit means lets pull together' in Swahilian," Hubbard said. "The summit is meant to bring together students of color and their allies to address issues pertinent to their success at predominately white colleges and universities. This year's theme, Enter to Learn, Depart to Save,' will help to enlighten students and their allies so that they can be an asset to a global society, inter and intraculturally."

Hubbard, who has been with Westminster College since 2001, earned her undergraduate degree from Geneva College and master's from Duquesne University.
