Westminster College Offers Personal Enrichment Classes

Westminster College announces several personal enrichment and leisure courses for community residents. Continuing Education classes and seminars are non-credit and are open to all interested individuals. Formal admission to Westminster College is not required.

Personal fitness classes are scheduled in three sessions: Session A runs from Sept. 11 through Oct. 13; session B runs from Oct. 16 through Nov. 17; and session C runs from Nov. 27 through Dec. 15. Classes are held in the "Down Under" in Eichenhauer Hall.

Yoga classes, which run all three sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m., are designed as an introductory or refresher course. At the completion of each class, students should feel calm, centered, quietly energized, and happy.

Senior Yoga classes, which run all three sessions on Wednesdays from 9-10 a.m., are designed to gently aid in mobility and general physical health.

Stress Reduction classes, which run all three sessions on Wednesdays from 5-5:45 p.m. p.m., are designed to learn how to handle stress through mind/body awareness and controlled breathing, along with beneficial stretching and lengthening of the body.

Pilates classes, which runs all three sessions on Wednedays from 6-7 p.m., feature total body conditioning that combines cardio, and body sculpting.

Computer classes are designed to meet the needs of the beginner to the accomplished user and are held in room 214 of Patterson Hall.

Introduction to Computers Step I runs Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 26-28, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This course is designed specifically for anyone who is new to the world of personal computers.

Introduction to Computers Step II runs Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 3-5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This workshop will remain slow-paced and provide a fun and relaxed learning environment.

Introductions to Computers Step III runs Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 10-12, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This course is a continuation of previous workshops and is designed to give the confidence needed to feel comfortable using a computer.

Web Design and Development is scheduled Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 25 and 27, from 7-9 p.m. This course will guide the student through the process of effectively designing and assembling a Web site.

Power Point is scheduled Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 2 and 4, from 7-9 p.m. This hands-on workshop will provide the skills needed to create slides, outlines, speaker's notes, and audience notes, as well as instructions about using clip art.

Adobe Photoshop is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 9 and 11, from 7-9 p.m. This class will teach you the basic elements of the Adobe Photoshop program, such as cropping, resizing, and adding text to your images.

How to Care and Feed Your Computer is scheduled Mondays and Wednesday, Oct. 16, 18, and 23, from 7-9 p.m. In this class, students will learn how to make computers work better, run faster, and last longer.

Microsoft Word is scheduled Tuesday - Thursday, Oct. 17-19, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of the basic functions and features of Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Publisher is scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 24 and 26, from 7-9 p.m. In this class, students will learn how to create professional publications, including calendars, flyers, business cards, newsletters, and more.

Microsoft Excel is scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 7, 9, 14, and 16, from 6-8 p.m. This course offers a basic outline of creating spreadsheets: entering data, editing and formatting, and using formulas for calculations.

Several enrichment courses are also scheduled.

Introduction to the Italian Language is scheduled Tuesday - Thursday, Oct. 24, -26, from 7-8 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room of the McKelvey Campus Center. This course introduces a fun and easy way to learn how to greet, introduce yourself, and hold basic conversations in Italian.

Intermediate Italian Language is scheduled Tuesday - Thursday, Nov. 7-9 and 14-16, from 7-8 p.m. in the Drinko Conference Room of the McKelvey Campus Center. Using similar methods as the introduction, this course will expand conversational Italian, as well as some written materials.
Line Dancing is scheduled on Thursdays, Nov. 2, 9, 16, and 30, from 6-7 p.m. in the Old 77 dance studio. Students will have fun while learning a few of the popular line dances, such as Boot Scootin' Boogie, Electric Slide, and more.

Courses for kids are now available.

Computers for Kids is scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 19 and 21, from 4:30-6 p.m. in room 214 of Patterson Hall. In this class, kids will have fun getting the skills needed to become a junior computer whiz in today's technological world.

Stories, Acting and Art I is scheduled Saturdays, Sept. 16, 23, and 30, from 10-11:10 a.m. in the Drinko Conference Room of the McKelvey Campus Center. This class for children ages 6-10 utilizes stories from children's literature to create projects, play theater games and bring stories to life through performance. The last 10 minutes of each class will conclude with an informal performance. Parents are welcome to view the performances.

Stories, Acting and Art II is scheduled Saturdays, Oct 14, 21, and 28, from 10-11:10 a.m. in the Drinko Conference Room of the McKelvey Campus Center. This class is a continuation of the first segment with all new stories. As before, the last 10 minutes of each class will conclude with an informal performance. .
