Westminster College Offers Personal Enrichment Classes

Westminster College announces several personal enrichment and leisure courses for community residents.  Continuing Education classes and seminars are non-credit and are open to all interested individuals.  Formal admission to Westminster College is not required.

Personal fitness classes are scheduled in three sessions: Session A runs from Sept. 20-Oct. 22; session B runs from Oct. 25 through Nov. 26; and session C runs from Nov. 29 through Dec. 17.

Beginner Yoga classes, which run all three sessions on Mondays from 6-7 p.m., are designed as an introductory or refresher course.  At the completion of each class, students will feel calm, centered, quietly energized and happy.

Pilates Mat classes, which run all three sessions on Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m., are designed to begin or refresh the Pilates experience, and will strengthen and realign the body, with a lot of concentration on the abdominal muscles.

Power Yoga classes, which run all three sessions on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 6-7 p.m., are designed to provide an excellent workout with strong poses to enhance strength, stamina, and total body/mind harmony,

Low Impact Fitness classes, which run all three sessions on Wednesdays from 7:15-8:15 p.m., are designed to help reduce body fat and tone body muscles.

Gentle Stretching, which runs all three sessions on Mondays from 10-11 a.m., is designed to move through a variety of postures geared for the less flexible and/or older adult.

Computer classes are designed to meet the needs of the beginner to the accomplished user.

Introduction to Computers Step I runs Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 21-23, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  This course is designed specifically for anyone who is new to the world of personal computers.

Introduction to Computers Step II runs Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 28-30, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  This workshop will remain slow-paced and provide a fun and relaxed learning environment.

Introduction to Computers Step III runs Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 5-7. from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  This course is a continuation of previous workshops and is designed to give the confidence needed to feel comfortable using a computer.

Power Point is scheduled Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 25 and 27, from 6-8 p.m.  This hands-on workshop will provide the skills needed to create slides, outlines, speaker's notes, and audience notes, as well as instructions about using clip art.

How to Care and Feed Your Computer is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 7-9 p.m.  In this class, students will learn how to make computers work better, run faster, and last longer.

Beginning Word is scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 19 and 21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of the Windows operating environment, as well as further introduce Microsoft Word.

Microsoft Excel is scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays, Nov. 8-17, from 6-8 p.m.  This course offers a basic outline of creating spreadsheets: entering data, editing and formatting, and using formulas for calculations.

How to Buy on eBay is scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 11- 20, from 7-9 p.m.  This class will provide an overview of how to find and purchase quality items on eBay.

How to Sell on eBay is scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 26-Nov. 4, from 7-9 p.m.  This course will provide information on how to create a seller's account, list an item, accept online payment and keep track of all selling activity.

Microsoft Publisher is scheduled Monday and Wednesday, Nov. 1 and 3, from 6-8 p.m.  Students will learn to create professional publications, including calendars, flyers, business cards, newsletters, and more.

Macromedia Flash is scheduled Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, from 6-8 p.m.  This course will demonstrate how Flash allows integration of video, text, audio, and graphics to provide interactive marketing presentations.

Web Design and Development is scheduled Tuesday-Thursday, Dec. 7-9, from 6-8 p.m.  This course will guide the student through the process of effectively designing and assembling a Web site.

Several enrichment courses are also scheduled.

Introduction to Sign Language is scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 25-Nov. 10, from 6:30-8 p.m.  Students will learn the manual alphabet, family, people and pronouns, colors, food, action verbs, sports and hobbies.

Handwriting Analysis is scheduled Wednesdays, Nov. 3-24, from 6-8 p.m.  This course will study handwriting to gain an insight about the personality of the writer.

Junk Yard Art is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m.-noon.  Students will make their own light switch cover out of provided junk, as well as a look at a number of exciting "junk yard" works done by many artists.

Stamping for Beginners is scheduled Mondays, Sept. 20-Oct.11, from 6-7:15 p.m., and again Tuesdays, Sept. 21-Oc.t 12, from noon-1 p.m.  Participants will learn how to create simple to beautiful greeting cards.

Christmas in October is scheduled Thursday, Oct. 7, from 7-8:30 p.m.  Students will learn how to make six to eight Christmas cards in this class.

Cover it with Vellum is scheduled Thursday, Nov. 4, from 7-8:30 p.m.  This class is a continuation of Stamping for Beginners that offers ways to embellish greeting cards using several different techniques that involve vellum paper.

Fun with Reinkers, Windows Sheets, and Wax Paper is scheduled Thursday, Dec. 9, from 7-8:30 p.m.  This class offers other ways to stamp greeting cards.
