Westminster College has recognized the accomplishments of seven local educators with Westminster College/News Channel 33 Classroom Hero Awards.

They are:  Sharon Bayus from Cortland Elementary School; Joe Bender from Hickory High School; Patrick Hovance from Howland Middle School; Carole Mazanetz from Newton Falls High School; Kim McCormick from Wilmington Elementary School; Amiee Morrison from Ursuline High School; and Gary Orosz from Byzatine Catholic Central School.

Westminster College and News Cannel 33, the Youngstown, Ohio-based ABC affiliate, teamed up to honor 14 outstanding area educators this year.  "Classroom Heroes" were honored with a certificate and sweatshirt from Westminster College, and are profiled on News Channel 33

"Westminster College is pleased to recognize the contributions of area educators," according to Westminster College President R. Thomas Williamson.  "These unsung heroes deserve our praise, and we look forward to helping the next generation of classroom heroes through our John Deaver and Elizabeth Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning."

The Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will open next fall in Westminster's new $14-million Andrew J. McKelvey Campus Center, and will advance world-class teaching at Westminster and enrich K-12 education through outreach programs for area educators.
