Westminster College to Host Lecture on Terrorism and Violence in Schools

Westminster College will host Dr. Douglas C. Smith, noted historian, multi-cultural author and lecturer, Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Dining Hall.

Smith's talk, "Terrorism and Violence: A Guide for Educators," will discuss current theories on terrorism, and how the educators of America can help their students understand this historical, psychological phenomenon. Smith approaches the topic from an anthropological, geopolitical, and historical focus.

Smith, who is currently professor and graduate center administrator at West Virginia University, holds six degrees, has been visiting professor at numerous Chinese universities, and has lectured in Russia, Japan, Korea, Guam, and Harvard. He is the author of 10 books and 40 articles on Asian education and family life.

The talk is preceded by a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m., and seating for the program attendees only will begin at 7:15 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the local chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International, a professional association in higher education known for its high quality, valued for its educational leadership, research, service, and promotion of excellence in public education.
