Westminster College English Professor to Deliver Bleasby Colloquium

Posted on Tuesday, October 8, 2002

Dr. David Swerdlow, associate professor of English at Westminster College, will discuss his life as a writer Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in Hoyt Science Resources Center room 166.

This colloquium is the second in a series of five scheduled for the George Bleasby Colloquia, a series of literary events in honor of Dr. Bleasby, who chaired the Department of English at Westminster from 1954-75.

Swerdlow's presentation "In the Mosaic: A Writer's Life," will center on his life as a writer, including excerpts from his forthcoming book, Small Holes in the Universe, scheduled for publication by WordTech Editors next spring.

"I will read other essays, translations, and perhaps, a children's story that I have written," said Swerdlow. "My goal is to give the audience a developed impression of how my various scholarly, creative, and personal interests intermingle to create a writerly life."

Swerdlow, who has been with Westminster College since 1990, specializes in poetry, and comparative and contemporary literature. He was a Fulbright professor of American Literature in Peru, and a Fellow for the National Endowment of the Humanities. Swerdlow earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, and his master's and Ph.D. from Ohio University.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Swerdlow at (724) 946-7345 or e-mail dswerdlw@westminster.edu.
