Westminster College Fraternity Sponsors Faculty Appreciation Night

All Westminster College faculty members were invited to the Theta Chi Fraternity annual "Faculty Appreciation Night" Nov. 14.

"Each year we choose a Westminster College faculty member to receive our Faculty of the Year Award,'" said Christopher Leas, philanthropy chair of Theta Chi. "This year we chose Dr. William McTaggart [professor of English]."

McTaggart, who is has been with Westminster College since 1975, earned his undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, his master's and Ph.D. from Ohio University. He also studies at Oxford University as a Fulbright-Hays Scholar.

McTaggart has been the public address announcer for all of the Westminster home football and basketball games since 1978, commemorated Westminster's 100th season of football in 1991 with the book, Winning: 100 Years of Westminster Football. He also documented the 1988 and 1989 football national championships in That Magical Season and Taking Care of Business, respectively.

"This year Christopher Nave, a sophomore who became a brother last year, and Ted Haynes, a brother and 1999 graduate, spoke on "How has being a member of Theta Chi made a positive impact on your life, and what does being a member mean to you," continued Leas. "We wanted two different perspectives. Our message was strong-there's more to our fraternity than just the social aspect."

"Preston Dibble, our house manager, offered faculty members insight about the history of the fraternity and the Westminster College chapter, as well as an explanation of the renovations that have taken place both inside and outside the house," said Leas.
