The Rev. Steven Mark Allen has been called as the new Westminster College Chaplain, and will begin his duties in the summer.

Allen is currently the head chaplain at The Lovett School in Atlanta, Ga., where he has been employed since 1997. In addition to teaching classes, leading weekly services, serving on administrative committees, and coordinating volunteer community events, he is the wrestling coach at Lovett School.

Before coming to The Lovett School, Allen was the associate pastor of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, and director of youth ministries at the Milford Presbyterian and North Haven Congregational Churches in Connecticut.

"I feel that I am uniquely qualified to be chaplain at a college," said Allen. "As a graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio, I was actively involved in the worship life of the school, and I can identify with a small school education.

"My greatest passion comes from trying to minister to people in exciting and creative ways. I welcome the challenge to create a worship experience that is contemporary in that it meets students and faculty where they are on their faith journey."

In addition to being a Phi Beta Kappa Wooster graduate, Allen also earned teacher's certification from the University of Connecticut, and a master of divinity from the Yale Divinity School, Yale University.
