Westminster College Preschool Teachers Present Diversity Workshop at Conference

Posted on Wednesday, March 28, 2001

Westminster College Preschool teachers Deborah Behr and Dianna Reed recently led a workshop titled "Opening the Doors to Diversity" at the "Many Faces of Diversity" conference.

"Our goal was to work with child care providers to create a curriculum that counters society's message of bias and reflects the cultural backgrounds of all children and families," said Reed. "We included a five-day unit called We All Eat." The goal of this unit was to demonstrate and explore different ways of preparing and eating food as a way for children to understand differences and similarities in different cultures and traditions."

The conference, designed for child care providers and early childhood educators, was sponsored by the Lawrence and Mercer County Cooperative Extension and Child Care information Services.
