Seventeen Westminster College education majors will participate in the Multicultural Education Fair at Notre Dame Elementary School Tuesday, April 24, from 5-7 p.m.

The college students will entertain and teach the elementary students through games that are native to various countries such as Native American kickball and sand art; China's Nim math game and Tangram, a creative thinking game; Quills bowling game from France; Ampe from Ghana, a quick reactions game using hands and feet; and Fox and Geese, a creative thinking and strategy board game from Norway.

"It's a chance to work with more diverse topics and to introduce them to students who might not otherwise get a chance to see," said Brian Apple, a sophomore elementary education major from Darlington . "It gives me a chance to learn, too because I didn't grow up in a diverse environment."

"You don't realize you are learning at this fair because you have so much fun," said second-year participant Amiee Piccolino, a junior elementary education major from Pittsburgh.

"I think the younger ones enjoyed it the most, but everyone seemed to love the experience," said second-year participant Janice Whalen, senior elementary education major from Evans City.

"The Multi-Cultural Education Fair is a wonderful way to bring together students, parents, teachers, and teachers-to-be," said Michele Rosengarth, director of the project at Westminster College. "Participating elementary students have a unique opportunity to learn and understand how cultures and customs of the world influence people today."
