Westminster College will celebrate the opening of its new high-fidelity nursing simulation lab with a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Majoras Lobby located on the second floor of Hoyt Science Center.

The ceremony will be followed by a demonstration featuring Denise Morian, lab manager, and nursing students interacting with lifelike manikins. Another demonstration by Shannon Whitcomb, nursing faculty member, will highlight the Anatomage 3D Virtual Cadaver Dissection Table, an anatomy and physiology table that provides accurate 3D visualizations of human anatomy.

The simulation lab will enhance nursing and allied health professional education and upskilling in the region by providing realistic medical scenarios and dynamic environments in which students and first responders can hone their skills.

The lab is equipped with five lifelike manikins, including a newborn; standard medical equipment such as beds and crash carts; an observation room with recording equipment; and a 3D anatomy and physiology table.

For more information about the simulation lab, please contact Dr. Maria Sapienza, assistant professor and chair of the nursing department, at 724-946-7473 or sapienma@westminster.edu or visit www.westminster.edu/simlab.
